Not every cake is for a birthday. Board results, a first job, a promotion, a retirement, a farewell in the office, a new house, a visa approval — these are the orders that arrive with the nicest messages, and they're usually decided a day or two before.
Milestone cakes are mostly about the words. A clean cake in one or two colours with the message piped properly reads better than a busy design, and it photographs well for the group photo everyone will take. I can add a printed photo topper, a certificate or a logo shape if the occasion calls for it.
For offices, tell me the number of people rather than the size and I'll pick the cake: 2 pound and above for a floor of twelve or more, a 1 pound for a small team. Everything is eggless, which matters when you're feeding a whole department and can't ask each person.
