What is a bento cake?
A bento cake is a mini cake about 4 inches across (roughly 250–300 g) that serves one or two people and is packed in a small kraft box, like a Korean lunch box. It usually carries a short hand-piped message, which is why it's the go-to for surprises, proposals and cake-for-two moments.
Where the name comes from
Bento cakes started in Korea, where cafés began boxing single-portion cakes in the same square containers used for bento lunches. The look travelled through Instagram and Pinterest, and now it's the most-requested small cake I make in Asansol.
The box is part of the gift — you hand someone a box, they open it, and there's a tiny cake with their name on it.
